Golf Nutrition

There are several common mistake golfers make when choosing the food they eat before, during and after a round of golf.
The biggest mistake is not staying hydrated. In golf, you will walk 4-6 miles during the course of 4-5 hours. Your body simply must keep fluids in order to golf at your optimal state.
WATER is simply the best way to stay hydrated. Ideally, you should drink at least 1 bottle of water before, 2-5 bottles during your round (depending on the heat) and a bottle after your round.
Coffee and Tea are diuretics, meaning they actually de-hydrate you. They should be avoided. Also, soda and beer may make you feel good, however they will give you a sugar high and you will have peaks and valleys in your energy levels.
The same goes for chocolate bars and candy; while you may feel your energy surge for a while, they will cause you to lose energy through the round.
A funny thing my friend Edy Patton used to do for the high school golf team she coached: She would actually provide the opposing team cokes and candy snacks at the 9 th hole turn. She's then feed her own team healthy snacks and water. They won most of the tournaments they played in.
My favorite snack food for the golf course is nuts, particularly almonds and pecans. These are high in fat (the good kind)
and will give you the long sustained energy necessary throughout a round.
My favorite Golf Nutrition Bars are the 10th Tee back nine energy bars.
